You might be surprised. My infant daughter and I were greeted often by large helicopters hovering over our New York City playground. All the nannies would reach for their cellphones to check what disaster had just befallen the city, but the Blackhawk pilots would just smile and wave at the kids.
Well, the heliport on the riverwalk was within walking distance. But I’ll give you not right next door.
We only had one right next door when we lived at my husband’s medical school in the Bronx – when the medivac lands in the middle of the night it shines its lights right into the windows of the 27th floor. And yes, we were lucky enough to live on the 27th floor.
Perhaps my examples are unfair. After all, how many New Yorkers have the chance to live both on an inner-city hospital campus AND near the Gracie Mansion heliport? 🙂
See here for another description of my favorite public park, where we caught sight of all the post-9/11 military helicopters: http://www.uppereast.com/downbytheriver.html
Just a couple of weeks ago that same helicopter company was in town, but there was no room at the Inn or B&B! So we ended up rooming a pilot for a couple of nights. It was nice to talk to someone who has such a neat job! And that would definately never happen in Toronto!
Okay you’ve got me convinced Karen. I guess I was being a little northern centric. Nice Park by the way.
There were no accommodations here either Kara, and a very big demand in town. At least a couple of the pilots/engineer slept in a tent by the helicopters.

But not parked next door…
