I've been feeling guilty about the people who have been visiting the House from the Canadian Blogging Awards expecting to see a photoblog here, and decided that I had better at least get one picture up. Trouble is, I've not seen anything to inspire me and light is at a premium these sunless days. I was in a bit of a quandary and then I saw this post with a beautiful picture of a sundog on Teepe's Weblog.
It started me thinking about how one never sees a photo of just a single Sundog. Our natural inclination is to record the whole scene, both Sundogs (they almost always travel in pairs) and the sun. Because of that inclination her photo really stood out.
So carrying the thought forward I decided to revive an old photo, one I've posted here before, but offered as a triptych of the three elements. It sort of works, I believe.

That does work as a triptych.
You cheated! You took that from inside the house – or at least from the porsch! 😀
Those would be prize winning, framed and displayed on a wall all by themselves!
Thank you Dave.
If truth be told allmycke, I often cheat by taking pictures from our deck. I suppose that is the danger/advantage of having such a view from there.
I think I may have been the one who nominated you in that category.
You’re right: this isn’t technically a photoblog like the other two northern sites in the contest are. But I love your photos, and the judges let you in, so you must have impressed SOMEONE. 🙂
Allmycke’s typo has me laughing- Clare’s driving around town taking photos from his Porsche now? Great sundog photo, and that header photo (not sure if it’s new or not) is fantastic! Wow!
BTW, the best photos I have from the time I spent in Arctic Bay were taken from the front guestroom window, so why leave home when you have the best view right there?
Thanks Megan, for the nomination and for liking my photos. I get more hits from the Photo Blog category than from any of the others. I keep thinking they must be saying “WTF, there are no photos on this blog!”
Hey Nancy,
I find the Porsche too low to take good scenic shots although it is good for wildflower ones. It is a great view from here isn’t it.
I meant to mention Nancy, that the header is taken from a larger image that includes a full moon. It’s moved off the main page but if you go back one or two pages you should find the whole thing.
