I swear all I want to do is poke fun at Swine Flu, and I know I shouldn't. Perhaps it was because I was a young impressionable lad the last great Swine Flu pandemic in 1976.
Instead, I'll point you towards the latest installment of I and The Bird. Number 99 it is, incredibly enough. It seems such a short time ago I was submitting something to #1. This edition is ably hosted by Daniel Rhoads of Migrations, who has migrated to Cyprus it appears. As always this edition is filled with great posts, great writing and photos. Go visit.
And because I can't help myself…

I know, it’s very tempting despite the gravity of the matter. I’m not sure if it’s that pigs are inherently funny or the ease of making puns (Aporkalypse, Snoutbreak, Epigdemic, etc.). Or it could be that we are hurtling towards a pandemic but iwe’re not supposed to panic (at least according to our leaders).
I just hope they let us know when it is time to panic.
Usually when someone steps up to the microphone and says “Now nobody panic…” I know its time to panic. But I think for me 1976 really made me take Swine Flu less seriously. All the dire warnings and direr predictions came for not. Between that and the media’s penchant these days for trying to whip everyone into some manner of hysteria, coupled with the fact that pigs are inherently funny, makes me just want to mock this.
Even though I know I shouldn’t. My apologies to anyone afflicted with the disease and their families.

Which begs the question :: so why was a 53 year old woman complaining of a runny nose anyway? Silly season is definitely upon us.
It is interesting to see the tone of the news reports coming down a notch now Indigo. Can’t wait for the new blockbuster movie “Pigs on a Plane”.
