Occasionally You Win One…
The other night after some searching I managed to find a jeweler’s screwdriver and thought that I would tackle trying to fix Leah’s laptop. I was thinking that if it was something obvious that was loose I could save the hassle and expense of sending the laptop out for repairs. A little while into it I thought, "No. This is a bad idea" and put the screws back in. I got a hold of an authorized service shop down in Ottawa and left a message. In a follow up email I explained what had happened and the fellow emailed back a suggestion that it was the wifi card that had been jarred loose and sent instructions how to get at it and re-install it. Five minutes later the lap top was back up.
Now he could have easily kept that to himself and repaired the laptop, with me none the wiser. I’m sure there are lots of people in the business who would have. So if anyone is in need of a repair shop for the Mac in Ottawa let me know and I’ll recommend these guys.
The Great Backyard Bird Count…
Just a reminder (especially to you Nunavumiut) that the Great Backyard Bird Count is on this weekend. I’m supposed to be a reviewer for Nunavut, in case there are some unusual sightings (yep, that’s a raven). If you need some further information on how it works, go to the website here.
It’s a Stat thing…
If anyone wants to boost their stats I’d suggest a post that includes the words "frozen sewer vent stack". My word there are a lot of people out there who have frozen stacks and no idea what to do about it. I bet I’m getting 50 to 100 hits a day with that search string.
One More Thing…
I had one other thing I was going to include in this post, but it is lost somewhere in the cobwebs that inhabit my cranium.

Restores your faith in human nature when you strike someone like that, Clare. Especially in the computer world where service charges are so high and there’s lots of money to be made.
Well, I live near Ottawa and own a couple of Macs, so I sure wouldn’t mind knowing about a good service place. The shop I used to take my stuff to is now gone. They weren’t the best anyhow. Last time I had a problem, I took my computer in and they couldn’t fix it until I found a service bulletin on the Apple service website and emailed it to them! Since then, I’ve been a little braver about attempting to work on my computers myself (there’s actually quite a bit of do-it-yourself repair info on the net). However, it would still be nice to know of a good shop.
That’s pretty funny about the “frozen sewer vent stack” — obviously a good way to pick up some blog traffic! (-:
