Everyone has, or needs a sense of place. Something that grounds us to the earth, to the world around us. Many of us shuffle through the world, not really grasping how important place needs to be. Home to me, no matter where I am, will always be Roblin. It is where my roots are, and they run deeper there than I imagined growing up. Being there lifts much of the weight of the world from my shoulders, I haven’t been there for awhile. I’m truly fortunate that I also feel this sense of place here, in Arctic Bay, which for all of it’s unfamiliarity has that same sense of community I remember growing up.

But if you really want to know what place is, go visit Whipperwill and fill your heart with her place.

The self-indulgence? Of course it is linking back to her site after being mentioned by her, one of the best writers (I was going to say on the web, but she is one of the best period).  I’d buy a collection of her essays, and maybe if she’d publish them, she’d have enough money for what she wants…
